Eternal Salvation

“And the testimony is this; that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life

1 John 5:11-13 (NASB) emphasis added.

Does the Bible promise everlasting salvation?

In a simple yes or no answer, the answer would be a resounding yes!

According to Colossians 2:13 and  Romans 8:1 , all of your past, present, and future sins are forgiven. No future judgment will befall you.

Let us take a closer look at the above scriptures:

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins ” Col 2:13 (NIV) emphasis added.

Romans 7:22-25 (NASB)

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 (NIV) emphasis added.

Romans 7:22-25

"For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,  but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am ! Who will set me free from the body of this death?
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin."

This above passage is a great example of how the Christian reacts to the sin in their lives. Let's continue.

Once a person makes the decision to follow Christ, that person is supernaturally transformed by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Once joined by the Holy Spirit, that person becomes one with Christ (1) being joined with Christ means the believer is now an adopted Son of God (2) and joint heir to the throne of God through Jesus Christ, never fearing to lose such titleship, for once a Child of God, forever, eternally a Child of God. (3)

Jesus Christ is King of the eternal kingdom, who will never lose his kingship, and as God's sons and daughters (4) you will never lose your royalty, being princes and princesses of his kingdom. (5)

As humans, we have finite minds concerning what it means to be a son or daughter of God, and a prince or princess of heaven. But as Christians, we have something that no other people in any other age had, and that is a personal relationship with God himself. We are free from the penalty of sins we commit before or after the indwelling (6), and we are free from the bond of sin (7), which would mean death, damnation, and eternal separation from God.

The Jewish sacrificial system in the Old Testament was a works based system, a system which could not accomplish the task of bringing people in right relationship with God. Concerning the difference between Old Testament and New Testament Saints, I have often heard it taught that the saints of the Old Testament age looked forward to the cross, while we in the New Testament age look back to the cross of Christ for our justification. Thus Scripture states of Abraham,

"By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son" Heb 11:17 (NASB)

Romans teaches us that,

" For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.  For what does the Scripture say? " ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS ." Romans 4:2-3 (NASB)

We however, as Christians have been granted grace through Jesus Christ, forgiveness of the very thing that separated us from God, our sins which are a result of our inherited [from Adam] sin nature. At Salvation, we are born anew, having a heavenly citizenship, instead of an earthly citizenship. (8)

So look up with reverence, bowing to the mighty Father God, bowing to your King, Jesus Christ, God the Son, and be humbled knowing that the Holy Spirit, God the Holy Spirit, lives within you. There is nothing else in this world more precious than the Son of God dying on the cross, to rise again, just so he can be one with his children.

God loves you; he proved it by becoming a human being and willfully turned himself into sin, to be your sin offering to the Father. (9)

The next time you want to sin, ask yourself these questions:

Would I do this in front of God the Father? Would I do this in front of God the Son? Would I do this in front of God the Holy Spirit? If your answer is no, then don't do it at all, for God lives in you, stands beside you, and is watching you from above.

So rest my brothers and sisters in Christ, your salvation is secured, and there is no chance you will ever lose it.

By faith, and faith alone, your salvation is granted. (10)

Peace is upon you, in the name of the highest God, and his glorious and precious Son, Christ Jesus, Amen.

1.   Romans 6:1-10 , “ What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6  For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin, because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
Now if we died with Christ , we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.” Romans 6:1-10 (NIV)

2. Eph. 1:4-5; Rom. 8:23 , “ For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will” Eph 1:4-5 (NIV) , “Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.” Romans 8:23 (NIV)

3. 1 John 3:2 , “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:2

4. 2 Cor. 6:18; Gal. 3:26 , "And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Cor 6:18 (NASB) , “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus .” Gal 3:26 (NASB)

5. 1 Peter 2:9 , “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

6. Col 2:13 , “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ . He forgave us all our sins” Col 2:13 (NIV)

7. Romans 7:2-6 , “For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.
So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ , that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.” Romans 7:2-5 (NIV)

8. Phil. 3:20 , “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ ” Phil 3:20 (NIV)

9. 2 Cor. 5:21 , “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Cor 5:21 (NIV)

10. Romans 10:11-13 , “As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.' For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile, the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:11-13 (NIV)
